40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Autumn - Saran Wrap

The penultimate manicure for this challenge!

Week 51 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

One  more weeks to go ......

Challenge this week is Autumn.

I did a saran wrap manicure with autumn colours.

I did a base of Elf Mango Madness to start with and then on top of that I added a coat of CG Fire love.  When this was dry, I painted on a coat of SH Haute Chocolate and with a rolled up piece of saran wrap, sponged off some of the colour to bring out the orange base.  On some nails this method took off too much top colour, so I went back and added the brown on the saran wrap and sponged it back on ... and voila.

Simple but effective.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Hippies/Festivals

Week 43 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

Nine more weeks to go......

This week the prompt is Hippies/Festivals.

Lots of things come to mind, flowers, bright colours, green peace, Reading Festival, Glastonbury.... the list is endless really.

I've never been to a festival but as a child of the 70's probably worn flowery prints and flares :)

But I also had tie dye in my head and as I've never done this on my nails, what better reason than now.

Here is my contribution....

I applied a white polish as a base and then did the nail art over the top.  This makes the colours pop more.

I did the tie dye effect on the two middle fingers using a very fine dotting tool and when I had finished the pattern, gently dabbed over it with some acetone remover with a brush to give a more tie dye effect.

For the index and thumb, I dropped some polish drops onto a stamper and just stamped it straight onto my nails.  I added some metal studs and voila.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Neons - Geometric

Week 32 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

This week a double prompt.  For everyone the prompt is Neons and my personal pattern prompt - geometric.

I went for two accent nails with the pattern and I did an abstract geometric design.

(Edit - 13 May 2016)
The geometric pattern is done by creating my own nail polish decals.  I painted thin strips of polish onto plastic, once dry, cut them into random shapes and stuck onto the nail, top coat of SV and voila.

The thumb colour in the photo is not at all what it looks like IRL, it is a neon pink, in the photo it almost looks orange!  Two other colours I used on the accent nails not photographed are CG Custom Kicks (teal) and LA Girl Disco Vinyl Record (turquoise).

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Pink & Lilac Plus Fishbraid

Week 28 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

The prompt for the challenge this week is Pink and Lilac with my personal pattern prompt of Fishbraid.

Colours were easy to choose and the pattern prompt seemed easy enough!  I mean I'd seen plenty of tutorials on how to achieve this look.  How hard could it be???

Well quite difficult as I found!  I just could not get my head round how the braid would work and which colour goes where so as to show a true braid.  I looked at many pictures, tutorials and even practised with pen and paper and even some ribbon.

I gave up in the end and found a great tutorial on a gradient fishbraid, so that is what I ended up doing.

I am not giving up though, this is a personal challenge and I will do a true Fishbraid manicure and post as soon as :)

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Three Shades of Green - Embellished/3D

Week 24 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

The challenge this week: for everyone three shades of green and my personal prompt - Embellished/3D.

In my head I had a good idea of what I wanted to do, but as usual I was in a hurry and it did not go to plan.  I had wanted to do a two shade green gradient on two nails, but I didn't let the base colour dry enough and when I was sponging, it pulled the base colour off!

So I took it all off and ended up doing a saran wrap with the two colours instead.  In hindsight it looks better than perhaps the gradient would have.

For the embellished/3d part of it, I just added some 3d flowers.  For my pinky finger, I still have on the silver from last week (manicure still to share).

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Pale Blue Base with Chevrons

We are now on week 14 of the 52 week 40 Great Nail Art Idea's Challenge.

This week the prompt is Pale Blue Base - and the added extra personal pattern prompt - Chevrons.

This is what I have come up with.  I painted all my nails with CG (two coats) for the ring and middle fingers I used cut out sticky back plastic in chevron shapes (I don't own any vinyl stickers :( ), and painted on the darker blue.  For the other nails I free hand painted the tips in a chevron french.  The result....

I love water decals, so quick and easy to do.  Here I have another water decal skittlette.  I loved how this turned out and looked.
